As a busy wedding professional, adding “write a blog” to your long to-do list is probably the last thing you want to do. However, I’m here to give you all the reasons why you should write a blog (or outsource it to someone else)!
Blogs Help Improve SEO
Consistently posting on your blog means that you’re putting out fresh content regularly. Google and other search engines love that! Search engines are more likely to rank your content higher if you give them new content to display. Having a blog as a wedding professional also allows you to target keywords which are important for SEO. That means when potential customers are searching for those keywords, your blog is more likely to show up higher in the rankings.
Showcase Your Work
You work hard to create the day that your clients dream of. You need to show off your hard work! Blogs are great because they allow you to share the nitty gritty details and show pictures of your work. We are a society of skimmers, so being able to show pictures of your work on your blog is going to give potential clients a chance to see your best work in one place.
Blogs Stay Fresh
Instagram content stays relevant for 24 to 48 hours. Think about all that work you put into creating the perfect Instagram feed. Yes, it is an amazing place to connect with potential clients and show them your work. However, that post you spent so much time on is going to be outdated in a matter of hours. With blogging, your post will have a much longer lifespan, often one to two years. Think about that! You’ll definitely get more bang for your buck by posting blogs over Instagram posts.
Link to Other Vendors
Another great thing about blogging is that you can link to other vendors who were involved in the wedding day. This is great for two reasons. One is because you’ll add outbound links to your blog post which search engines like. The second is it will help build positive relationships with other wedding pros because you’ll be getting more eyes on their business. In turn, they may be more likely to tag or link you in their content, which means more traffic for you!
Make Some Extra Income
Down the road when you start getting more page views and build up a loyal audience, you may be able to make income off your blog. You can do this in various ways, but some of the popular ones are affiliate income, sponsored content, and ad revenue. Affiliate income is when you make money for recommending other people’s products. Sponsored content is money earned when a brand pays you to write a blog about their product or service. And ad revenue is earned when you join an ad network and you display ads on your website. There’s obviously a lot of fine print involved with these income streams, but it’s something to look into if you’re interested!
You Don’t Own Instagram
Lastly, just a friendly reminder that you don’t own any of the content you post on social media. Remember when Instagram and Facebook went down for several hours in 2021? If you solely relied on social media as your main traffic driver, lead generator, etc., then you were in a tough spot that day!
Facebook and Instagram can also delete your account or lock you out with little notice. There’s always a chance they can change their terms of service or algorithm, meaning what you were doing before that was working isn’t going to work anymore.
But think about your website, blog, and email list. You most likely have more control over what’s posted there, if it’s active or not, etc. Of course, things happen, but you’re not at the mercy of some giant corporation like you are with Instagram. All that to say, it’s smart to have a website and blog so that you control what happens to your content and so that your potential clients are always able to find you.
Those are just some of the reasons every wedding professional needs a blog! If you’re ready to start blogging and looking for some help, let’s connect so we can talk about what that looks like for your business!
