Today I wanted to share a quick guide to Pinterest for photographers. Pinterest is a place where many couples begin their wedding planning journey. They jump on Pinterest to look for inspiration and vendor options in their area. If your ideal client is spending time on Pinterest, it’s important that you have a strong Pinterest strategy in place to increase the likelihood that you’ll show up in their search results. Let’s jump into Pinterest for photographers!
Set up a Pinterest business account
The first step on your Pinterest journey should be to set up a Pinterest business account. A Pinterest business account gives you access to in depth analytics so that you can see how your pins are performing. Check out Pinterest’s guide on how to set up a business account. You’ll also want to make sure that you claim your website.
Optimize your Pinterest Profile
The next step is to optimize your profile. In your Pinterest username, you’ll want to make sure that you have a keyword in the name. For example, Photography Company Name | Dallas Wedding Photographer. Your username is searchable, so if people are searching for Dallas wedding photographer, your username will show up in their search results.
You’ll also want to update your display name to include your business name and keywords as well. The last place you’ll want to update is the about section. This is where you’re going to share what you do. You’ll also want to include at least two keywords here.

Optimize your Pinterest boards
Now let’s talk about optimizing your Pinterest boards. First, you’ll want to clean up your old boards. If you have personal boards that you still want to keep, make those secret. If you have boards that don’t pertain to your business or your ideal client, make those secret too. You want your Pinterest to be a reflection of your brand, your work, and who you want to work with. Making sure your Pinterest account aligns with your brand is an important part of Pinterest for photographers.
Now it’s time to create and name new boards. The title of your board needs to be a trending keyword. You don’t need to add any fluff. Something like wedding venues in Dallas or wedding dresses work great. Then you’ll want to write a keyword rich board description. Check out this post for a few ways to find out what keywords are popular on Pinterest. When you add a pin to your boards, make sure it is relevant to that board’s title and description.

Optimize your pins
When it comes to creating pins, you first want to make sure they are the correct size. The optimal pin size is 1000 x 1500 pixels. Make sure you resize your images to that size before uploading them to Pinterest so that they flow well on people’s feeds. You’ll also want to rename images before uploading them to Pinterest. You’ll want to include keywords in the image name, so dallas-wedding-reception.png is a good example.
Next you’re going to write a keyword rich pin title and description. Make sure that your title and description pertain to what your pin links to. Then you’re going to add the URL. Finally, make sure you pin this image to the most relevant board first.
So that was a quick overview of Pinterest for photographers. There’s obviously a lot more to it but that should give you a good start on your Pinterest journey.
