When it comes to wedding venue marketing, you want to ensure that you are using the best strategy to help your venue be found and booked by your ideal couples. There are several parts to a strong venue marketing plan including knowing who your ideal client is and where to market. Whether you’re new to the industry or have been in the business for years, these tips can help boost your venue’s visibility and appeal to potential clients.
Know who your ideal client is
First and foremost, you need to know who your ideal client is. And I mean really know them. We’re talking age range, budget, wedding style, personality traits, their average income, etc. Identify where they live, if they have kids or pets, what their hobbies are, where they eat, where they get their news, and so on. The more details you have, the better. You want to know exactly who your ideal client is so you can tailor your wedding venue marketing strategy to them.
Think about it this way. If I told you to write an Instagram post directed to a woman, it would probably take you a while to decide what to write because that’s such a generic prompt. But if I told you to write an Instagram post for a 32 year old woman who makes $75,000 per year, lives in Denver, has a golden retriever, likes to do yoga, lives with her fiance, likes to travel, etc., then it will probably be a lot easier to write that post since you know so much more about her. Really knowing your ideal client allows you to create detailed messaging targeting that client.

Know who you are and what your venue offers
Of course, you’ll also want to know who you are and what your venue offers. Ask yourself questions like these:
- Why do people choose your venue?
- What makes your venue stand out?
- What are your values?
Use the answers to these types of questions to help you craft your marketing messaging. Make sure that what you’re sharing really aligns with who you are and what you want your venue to be.

Make sure your website is updated
Couples will absolutely visit your website before booking. They want to check out your venue, get to know you, check pricing, etc. Your website doesn’t have to be the fanciest thing ever, but it needs to work and it has to provide a good user experience. If your website doesn’t offer a good user experience or it hasn’t been updated recently, that can be a huge turnoff for couples. That’s often their first impression of you, so make sure your website offers a great user experience.
Have an SEO strategy in place
With all the talk of websites, it’s also important to make sure your website is search engine optimized. That means when a search engine algorithm finds your website, it performs well because the proper steps have been taken to optimize the website for search engines. Whether you learn how to do it yourself or you outsource it, having an SEO strategy for your website will help improve your rankings in the search results.

Create fresh, consistent content through blogs
Part of a strong SEO strategy is having fresh, consistent content published on your website. The best way to do that is through blog posts. Search engines include new content as a ranking factor in their algorithm, so when they see that your website has new blog posts, that will help your website rank higher. Blog posts are also a great place to target keywords that you want to rank for. For example, your home page may target Dallas wedding venue as the keyword. You can create blog posts that target other keywords like modern wedding venue in Dallas, small wedding venues in Dallas, etc. to help your website be found for other keywords
Blogs are also a great way to show what your venue looks like at different weddings and can help build a relationship with potential couples. They will get to see what it’s like to work with you and learn more about you through your blog posts. You can also use blog posts to educate potential couples on various wedding topics. Blogs are also great because they can tie into your Pinterest strategy since Pinterest also loves fresh content. Pinterest is also a place where a lot of couples spend time wedding planning, so if your ideal client is on Pintrest, you want to make sure you’re showing up there too.
Testimonials go a long way
One of the best ways to market your business is through testimonials. People love to read reviews on everything these days. It gives them a sense of confidence before booking. Testimonials help create an emotional connection to your venue and help people see what type of experience they will get if they book your venue.

Take advantage of technology
Part of having a great website is showing what your venue looks like. While pictures of your venue are great (and I would recommend having a gallery that’s easy for couples to find on your website), video content adds another layer to your marketing strategy. A video tour of your venue is a great way to give couples a feel for what their wedding could look like at your venue. You can hire a videographer to create a tour video for you or work with your couple’s videographers to get the rights to use clips of their wedding video on your website.
Show up where your couples are at
When it comes to marketing, you need to make sure you’re marketing where your ideal client will see it. For example, your ideal client may be attending wedding expos while other people’s ideal clients will be on Instagram. Other people’s ideal clients may be hiring a full service wedding planner, so you’d want to make sure you’re building relationships with other wedding vendors. Since there are so many different facets of wedding venue marketing, it’s important to show up where your ideal clients are hanging out and focus on those aspects of marketing. I would say no matter where you’re marketing at, make sure your website is up to date and offers a great user experience (see above).

All the other wedding venue marketing things
As you can see, there are a lot of areas to focus on when it comes to wedding venue marketing. There are a few other places you can focus your strategy on. One of those is getting published in wedding magazines and wedding blogs. This helps build credibility and builds backlinks to your website [more on that at a later date]). You should also focus on building relationships with other wedding vendors. Word of mouth and referrals go a long way in this industry. Finally, getting into wedding directories, whether they’re local or national, like The Knot, can also be another area of marketing to focus on.
Whew, that was a lot! Wedding venue marketing is clearly a multi-faceted endeavor that can go in a lot of different directions. Your approach will depend on who your ideal client is, what your wedding venue offers, and what you feel most confident with doing.
